Commercial Stone
Chip & Crack Repair

Color-matched filling and seamless blending of chips, cracks, and edge damage on natural stone surfaces in North Idaho commercial properties.

Damage Happens.
It Doesn't Have to Stay.

In a commercial environment, stone damage is inevitable. Equipment impacts chip lobby floors. Delivery carts crack reception counters. Heavy use chips stair edges and entryway thresholds. In a residential setting, this damage is noticed by the homeowner. In a commercial setting, it is noticed by every client, guest, and visitor who passes through.

Professional chip and crack repair restores the surface to a condition that is difficult or impossible to detect in normal use. The process begins with color matching — the most skill-intensive step — and finishes with honing and polishing the repaired area to match the surrounding finish exactly.

Commercial chip and crack repair is typically performed as part of a broader restoration or maintenance visit, but can also be done as a standalone service for isolated damage. In either case, the goal is the same: a repair that a guest cannot identify.

For high-traffic commercial properties, we also offer priority repair response as part of our commercial maintenance plans — so when damage occurs, it is addressed quickly before it expands or affects the guest experience.

How We Do It

Our Process

01 — Evaluate
Damage Assessment
We assess the size, depth, and location of the damage, the stone type and finish, and what is achievable with repair. Commercial stone often has complex patterns or large slabs that require careful assessment before committing to a result.
02 — Match
Color Matching
We mix stone-compatible fillers and tints to match your specific stone — accounting for its base color, veining, and finish. Commercial stone with complex veining requires careful color work. We take the time to get the match right before filling.
03 — Fill & Cure
Filling & Curing
We fill the chip, crack, or void with color-matched material and cure it to the correct hardness. For commercial surfaces that see heavy use, we ensure the fill is appropriate for the traffic level and use environment.
04 — Blend
Honing & Blending
We hone and polish the repaired area to match the surrounding finish exactly. In a commercial setting, the repair must be invisible under the lighting conditions of the space — which we account for during the finishing process.
Stone Types

Materials We Work With

We work with all natural stone types present in North Idaho commercial properties.

Marble
Calcium-based · Soft
The most common commercial luxury stone requiring chip repair. Complex veining makes color matching challenging but rewarding when done correctly. Edge chips on reception counters and lobby floors are common.
Granite
Silica-based · Hard
Very durable but can chip under heavy impact. Chips in granite reception counters and lobby floors are typically clean-edged and respond well to repair.
Travertine
Calcium-based · Soft–Med
Natural voids in travertine can expand into larger damage under commercial foot traffic. Void filling and crack repair as part of regular maintenance prevents voids from growing.
Limestone
Calcium-based · Soft
Soft and susceptible to chipping and cracking. Requires careful matching and conservative honing to avoid removing more material than necessary.
Quartzite
Silica-based · Very Hard
Very hard stone that chips cleanly when it does chip. Excellent candidate for repair — clean edges, predictable matching, durable fill.
Do You Need This?

Signs Your Stone Needs
Attention

Visible Chips in Guest-Facing Stone

Any chip in a lobby, reception counter, restaurant bar, or spa stone is visible to every guest. Repair removes the damage from the guest experience without the cost and disruption of replacement.

Edge Damage on Counters or Stairs

Counter edges and stair nosings are the highest-impact areas in any commercial property. Edge chips here present both a guest experience issue and a potential safety concern. Repair addresses both.

Crack Lines Running Through Floor Tiles

Hairline cracks in commercial floor tiles — often from substrate movement or heavy impact — expand over time under foot traffic. Addressing cracks early keeps the repair simple. Left unaddressed, cracks widen and the repair becomes more involved.

Damage Detracts from the Property Standard

In a luxury commercial setting, any visible damage communicates that the property is not maintained to standard. Chip and crack repair is one of the most cost-effective ways to maintain the visual quality of a stone installation.

Pre-Event or Seasonal Preparation

Many commercial properties schedule chip and crack repair before major events, at the start of a new season, or before property inspections. A repair visit addresses accumulated minor damage and brings the stone back to presentation standard.

Damage Is Getting Worse

Chips and cracks in commercial stone grow over time under traffic and use. The earlier damage is addressed, the simpler and less expensive the repair. Deferred repair almost always results in a more complex and costly job.

Questions

Frequently Asked

Our goal is always a repair that cannot be identified under normal viewing and lighting conditions. Commercial stone sometimes presents additional challenges — large slabs, complex lighting, and high-traffic areas that reveal imperfections more readily than residential settings. We assess and communicate the expected result honestly before beginning.
Yes. Most chip and crack repairs are completed in a few hours and do not require closing the area for more than the duration of the work and a brief curing period. We coordinate access with your facilities team.
Yes. Commercial maintenance plan clients receive priority scheduling for damage repair — typically within 24 to 48 hours of notification. For properties where stone presentation is critical, this is one of the most valuable aspects of a maintenance plan.
For isolated damage in a property that is otherwise in good condition — yes. Replacing a single tile in a large stone floor or lobby installation almost never achieves a seamless match. Repair, done correctly, is invisible. Replacement almost always shows.
Because every stone surface is different, pricing depends on the stone type, current condition, access, square footage, and the level of restoration needed. In many cases, professional restoration is significantly less than replacement — often roughly one-third to one-half the cost of replacing the stone, depending on the project. We provide an honest written quote after the free in-home assessment so you know exactly what to expect before any work begins.
